Conquer the legendary asphalt of the High Atlas Mountains on this intensive 4-day road cycling expedition. Starting from the 1,000-year-old city of Marrakech, you will trade the flat Haouz plains for dramatic, winding slopes as you climb toward the highest paved roads in North Africa.
This tour is a dream for cyclists who love vertical gain and cultural history. You will summit the ski resort of Oukaimeden (2600m), navigate the historic Tizi-n-Test Pass, and visit the UNESCO World Heritage mosque of Tinmel—the cradle of the Almohad Empire. From the lush valleys of Ourika to the limestone “velodromes” of the Kik Plateau, experience a world-class road cycling journey defined by rare beauty, authentic architecture, and legendary Moroccan hospitality.
The Expedition Itinerary
Day 1: Marrakech to Oukaimeden (2600m) – Cross the Ourika Valley before embarking on a steady 2-3 hour climb to Morocco’s premier ski resort. Enjoy a night at high altitude with picturesque Berber village views.
Day 2: Ourika to Asni Valley – Descent from the heights to Imi n Lghar. Climb steadily through the Atlas foothills to reach Tizi n’Tadmamt (1813m) before a long, rewarding downhill section into the market town of Asni.
Day 3: Tizi-n-Test & UNESCO Heritage – Set out on the legendary Tizi-n-Test pass. Stop at the ancient Tinmel Mosque (UNESCO site) before pushing to the 2100m peak for a spectacular sunset view over the Ouirgane Valley.
Day 4: Kik Plateau to Marrakech – Ascend the snaking roads to the Sufi shrine of Moulay Brahim. Cross the high limestone Kik Plateau with the snow-capped Toubkal peaks as your backdrop, followed by a long descent to Marrakech.
