Day 1 – Marrakech – Oukaimeden
Today after breakfast at the hotel, we drive you towards the foothills of the Atlas Mountains and traverse the Ourika valley, which is a frequent test for local Marrakech road riders. We arrive in the small village of Adrar, the starting point for our uphill cycle. This first day of bicycling is fantastic, starting with a solid 2 to 3 hour climb to the ski resort. Pass through a lovely terrain with various Berber communities. Overnight in Oukaimeden.
Day 2 – Ouka – Asni
We will transport you from Ouka to Imi n’Lghar, where we will begin bicycling. You will gradually gain height as you climb steadily along the mountainside, with spectacular vistas of the Atlas Mountains and Berber towns. As we approach our highest point, the Tizi n’Tadmamt, you will enjoy a more easy part following the slopes of the mountain hillsides and admiring the spectacular vistas out towards the Haouz Plains. After Sidi Fares, we’ll have a wonderful downhill segment to Asni. At Asni, spend the night in a hotel or riad.
Day 3 – Asni – Ouirgane
Today we embark on one of the Atlas’ most famous climbs, the Tizi-n-Test pass. After breakfast, we’ll head up 40 kilometers to Tinmel’s halfway point. Tinmel, a mountain top town, is notable in Moroccan history as the birthplace of the Berber Almohad Empire. This is the village from whence the Almohads launched their military attacks against Marrakech’s rulers, the Almoravids, in the early 12th century. Tinmel still has a historic mosque from that time period, which is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Then it was on to the ascent and a photo of the 2100 M peak, which was 71 kilometers from our starting point. After a little stop at the café, we return the way we came, this time with views of the Ouirgane valley in front of us. We returned to our motel.
Day 4 – Amizmiz – Marrakech
Today after breakfast, we began riding up the small road to the mausoleum of Moulay Brahim. This is a sacred site where a well-known Moroccan Sufi saint was interred. It is a well-known pilgrimage site that draws people from all around Morocco. We will cross the gorgeous limestone plateau at the highest point of the journey, with the often snow-capped Toubkal peaks in the distance. The ride across the terraces will be interspersed with a few towns until we reach the western end of the Kik and enjoy biking the heights of the magnificent Kik Plateau.
From here, we will descend to the Takerkoust lake, where our riding trip will come to a conclusion. After we load our bikes, a short transfer will take us to the lively Marrakech,
