Location

This bike adventure takes place in the High Atlas Mountains of Morocco, just a short drive from the vibrant city of Marrakech. The High Atlas Mountains are a spectacular setting for a mountain biking trip with hundreds of miles of dusty singletrack just waiting to be explored. With many years of experience guiding in the region, your local hosts can help you explore this region’s hidden riding potential.
The scenery makes for an impressive backdrop to your journey. The rugged and remote terrain has resisted the pressured of the modern world and feels like a window into a bygone era. Dramatic valleys offer vivid contrasts with the lush green irrigated fields along the valley bottom set against the barren rocky scree slopes that lead up to the snow-capped peaks.

What to Expect

Day 1: Marrakech – Imlil
After a pick up from your hotel in Marrakech, you will drive to the Atlas Mountains, specifically to Imlil Valley, where you will be met by the local tour operator. After having a welcome tea at a guesthouse, you will get your bike and helmet, and set off riding on an uphill asphalt road towards Tizi n’ Tamatert Pass. From there, you will have amazing views over the Imlil and Imnane Valleys. After a short break there, you will carry on riding on the same asphalted road to the last village, called Tachedirt village, situated at an altitude of over 7700 feet (2350m). Once you get there, you will take an unpaved road downhill, passing by many Berber villages such as Ouanskra, Ikkis, Amsakrou, There you will have a stop for lunch before carrying on downhill to the town of Tingherine, then climb up again to the Pass before heading back to Imlil where you will spend the night.

Day 2: Azzaden Valley – Ouirgane
After breakfast our ride takes us to this beautiful Ouirgane Valley in the high Atlas Mountains of Morocco. Through many Berber villages where you can see the pleasures of a simpler life where the philosophy of life is more or less extinct in the western world. We continue along the terrain and road with a magnificent sensory overload of nature’s beauty….! We enjoyed while overlooking the amazing lake of Ouirgane with magnificent views over the mountains. After some rest and relaxation, ride down on mixed road to the hotel where you will spend the night.

Day 3: Amizmiz – Marrakech
At 9am after breakfast, get on the bike! Today you’ll leave Ouirgane Valley and take on a technical 6 km uphill to leave the lush green surrounding ridge to descend onto dry village dotted plain of Amizmiz valley; we take the lunch near the river. After lunch we continue riding the last step through Berber villages, afternoon transfers back to Marrakech.

It’s suggested that people who cycle at a moderate intensity for more than 90 minutes, need to replace between 30g and 65g of carbohydrates per hour and we would thoroughly recommend bringing some of these with you, as well as some energy bars.
